2020 is finally here! As our #TrueToTheFinish team reflected on the color trends over the last decade, we had Sherwin Williams pull our top residential colors over the past 10 years.
Starting out the decade in 2010, our top colors were:
7012 Creamy (Ceilings)
7536 Bittersweet Stem
7024 Functional Gray
7029 Agreeable Gray
7030 Anew Gray
7529 Sand Beach
As time progressed, closing out the decade, the top colors were:
6385 Dover White (Ceilings)
7015 Repose Gray
7016 Mindful Gray
7044 Amazing Gray
7517 China Doll
7569 Stucco
Gray walls became synonymous with style and everyone eagerly jumped on the neutral color palette bandwagon. Neutral colors will always have a place in our homes and will never go out of style. Looking forward however, the leaders in paint are saying the next decade, starting immediately in 2020, will take a revitalized spirit with a more fresh palette.
The 2020 Colors of the Year
Sherwin-Williams reveals a calming navy hue as it’s 2020 color of the year. Naval (SW 6244) is a rich navy that creates a calm and grounding environment infused with quiet confidence. Inspired by the roaring 20’s, “Naval” works for any space.
Pantones 2020 color of the year is Classic Blue (Pantone 19-4052). Instilling calm, confidence, and connection this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era. Classic Blue is timeless and elegant in its simplicity. It will bring a sense of peace and tranquility to whatever room you chose to place it in.
For the first time ever, Benjamin Moore chose a pink hue as its color of the year. First Light (2101-70) is a soft, airy pink that symbolizes an upbeat and hopeful start to a bright new decade. A refreshing alternative to white or beige, First Light flatters any space and plays well with other colors providing a timeless way to lighten up a room.
Entering a new decade, Behr strives for vibrancy in life and to shape it how we chose. Their 2020 color of the year is Back to Nature (S340-4); describing it as calm, gracious, and balanced. Back to Nature is a restorative and revitalizing green hue that engages the senses and pairs well with other colors both inside and outside your home.
